Welcome to Jenkintown High School Environmental Science

Environmental Science brings together components of biology, chemistry, and sometimes physics to determine the interactions of living things in the places where they live. The work of the class will include reading, writing, experimentation, evaluation, and decision making.

Study materials come from internet-based sources, teacher-collected print sources, multi-media, text and trade books, and magazines (especially Discover and Scientific American). Students should be ready to collect their materials in a binder to use as their own personal "text."

Grades will be based on a "total points" system, so that there is no weighting. Scored activities will include online and class discussions, responses to reading, class activity reflections, lab write-ups, research papers and presentations, media creations, and quizzes and tests. Access to technology is assumed, whether at home or before school in the library or the PC lab which open at 7:00 am.

Required supplies are as follows:
  • Sturdy 1.5" binder for use the whole year to collect class materials.
  • Calculator with a log function key (scientific calculator)
  • pencils and/or pens
  • highlighter

Late Policy is as follows:
  • Work should always be turned in on time, even when not completed.
  • 20 percentage points are deducted for each day the assignment is late.
  • If you are absent for one or two days, your work is due the day you return, otherwise the late policy goes into effect.
  • Jenkintown School District absentee policy is in effect.
